In Åbo
Time to get to the arena. After some chatting and discussion we found out that the bus stopped in central Åbo. Obviously this was the only way to get to the arena since Åbo don’t have any tram that goes there.
Lillis, Bergman, Dennis and Jörgen is still in a very good mood that it is finally World Champs again. The good party mood from the night before were still with them…

Watta hell is this!!?? Here we have been naïve and thought that the finns had learned something from the last tie n 1997, but not…
It rather seems like they have made all effort to make it even worse and the area just outside the arena even more deserted than six years ago.

Oh yes, It’s really as boring as on the pic.
As a comparison we can tell that even the Russians had managed to put up, even though small, beer tent outside Peter the Great arena in St. Petersburg during the World Champs 2000. That should tell you something…
Once inside the arena it didn’t take long until there once again were shouting and screaming for Svea Svin. But this time it was the gang from Gothenburg. Svenne from Goa Gubber (The nice dudes) recognized Gabbe from the World Champs 2002 when he more or less painted the entire support group from the Nice Dudes before one of the games in Scandinavium.

The pearl and Bankman are nagging on one of the Latvians that Sweden of course will win the opening game against them.

Ok, nothing more to do then to enter the hall grab some sour-Lapin beer and check out the game SWE-LAT.
Bankman from The Nice dudes are doing his best to get the supporters going. Can be a little hard at this time since he obviously hadn’t noticed that it was almost ten minutes until the game started.

TV3 was as usual there to report home to the Swedish viewers.

Pretty good mood on the section and the expectations were high on the Swedish team. Don’t loose now when the champs have just started, thank you.

Just some more seconds left until the game starts.

Of course Sweden won the game, the national anthem was played and it was time to go to town, meet supporters and get drunk. That was what we thought..
We have never, NEVER seen or experienced something so lame as Åbo during this World Champs. Sure, it was Saturday night and a lot of people in motion in town, but were where all the supporters? Where were all the thousands of Latvians that we had seen at the arena? Before and during the game?
We went in to “our” place from 1997, Hamburger Club, and got drunk, spoke some to some swedish-speaking finns and then went home to the hotel.
